It's 1 November 2020 - last night was a quiet Halloween (no Trick-or-treaters here because the County Health Department banned it due to the pandemic, a full "Blue" moon, the night we turned the clocks back an hour to go back to regular time instead of Daylight Savings, and it capped a day where, in Texas, a Biden-Harris campaign bus was encircled and slowed down to 25 mph on Interstate Highway 35 (minimum speed limit 55),by a group of Trump-Pence supporters who were yelling, shouting and shakin and pointing weapons at the bus and those inside. The people inside called 911 and reported what was happening; and had to be "rescued" by law enforcement officers. The people on the bus cancelled their campaign stop for later that afternoon. Today the FBI is investigating the incident - of which there are plenty of photos.... As I stated at the beginning, today is 1 November, with the 2020 Presidential Election taking place in 2 days, on 3 November. .... This is not the America I grew up in.
I am a pretty innocuous older woman. I am short, and very round, with long white hair (because I can't go anywhere and get it cut), wearing thick glasses. I wear orthopedic walking shoes. Since the pandemic was announced, I have always worn a face mask anytime I stepped outside my front door. (I do not wear one on my balcony - which keeps me at least 12 feet away from anyone else; and if the people who live above me come out on their balcony, I go back inside.) I wear a mask because I am one of those designated "susceptible" people - I have high blood pressure, asthma, COPD, and I'm overweight, to name a few. I am slightly paranoid about keeping my mask on and staying a good six feet (or more) away from other people. I have been verbally abused 8 times - about once a month - since the pandemic began, and st some point in time someone says it's because of the fact I am wearing a mask. The verbal abuse usually comes from people who are not out and about alone - several times it has been two people, once a group of six. I get threats and name-calling. I can deal with that better than the man who attacked me on 1 June for no apparent reason - he called me names as I got on a city bus, got off behind me, then slapped, punched, kicked and spat on me, threatening to kill me, while following me across two streets and doing these things in front of people in cars. I was yelling for help, and received absolutely none. I am no longer happy in this mad and crazy world.
If Trump is voted out, I don't think he'll leave peacefully. We have to take a wait-and-see posture, waiting for the full tally of votes (which he will contest), waiting for the Electoral College to vote - and I am still a huge proponent of an actual per-person popular vote versus the antiquated and useless Electoral College - and then, if Trump actually does lose by a landslide or by a few Electoral votes, see what the schmuck will actually do. He has $421 million due in debts over the next 4 years, and about $1 billion overall, according to the financial papers. I really hope ex-Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris win by a huge amount, period.
Yesterday we had clear skies in Boulder, thanks to 10 inches of snow we received a week ago. It put out smaller wildfires, and has helped contain some of the larger ones. But it was windy yesterday afternoon, and the winds are building right now. Smoke haze and particulates are again obscuring the view of the Flatirons and Front Range from my desk window. That means the fires are kicking up to the northwest of us again. - Not good.
As usual, I will try to update with numbers on the COVID-19 situation on a daily basis - world, US, and Colorado case numbers and death numbers - as well as news headlines from WHO, and around the world dealing with the pandemic, plus occasional US news headlines that are germane. On Tuesdays I will shar the weekly epidemiological reports from various countries around the world that are reported to WHO. - And, as always, I sometimes add my own views or notes that are marked by at least 4 or more asterisks (****) that are placed before and behind my own views....
