A Timeline of COVID-19 Around the World, From News Resources, For June Through December 2021 - Updated On the 1st and 16th of Each Month

As you can see from the title, I am now updating this information twice a month for the rest of the year.  The end of the year will mark 17.5 months since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic and much of the United States essentially shut down.  It has been very taxing for me, personally.  I have had no problem staying home and going out only for essential needs.  I have had no problem wearing a mask anytime I was outside my home.  It did take a long time for me to get my vaccinations - I just had my second injection of the Moderna vaccine on 28 May, and I won't be considered "fully covered" and able to go out without a mask until 12 June.  My best friend and apartment sharer will get her second injection on 5 June and will be able to un-mask in public on 20 June.

   I say I have had a hard time due to people who don't wear masks, don't believe the threat of COVID-19 is real, and who continue to believe that the former resident of the White House - the 45th one - was illegally removed from office.  I have been physically attacked 3 times since the 1st of June last year - punched, slapped, dragged around by my shirt, and spat upon - just for wearing a face mask in public.  I have been verbally abused more than 40 times since April 2020.  I have made police reports, but no one has been caught.  Nothing has been acted upon with the verbal assaults.  Because the police are overwhelmed with violence everywhere.

   The extent of my travels since the pandemic was announced was one drive through Rocky Mountain National Park last summer, to Grand Lake and back.  I have read a lot and have done tons of genealogy research for other people.

   Last year, we did not even try to have any plants on the balcony.  This year, we have a new baby ivy plant, Creeping Jenny, a salmon Begonia pot with purple/blue Speedwell in the center, and I planted catnip seeds that  have just begun to show teeny green leaves above the soil.  I can't express how happy that makes me.

   Pony Penning on Chincoteague Island has been cancelled, as it was last year.  The auction of the foals will be held on-line this year, as it was last year.  As of this afternoon, 61 foals have been born to the herds that live in the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.  The ponies who live in Maryland on the Assateague National Seashore do not belong to the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, and do not receive any care.

   As stated in the first paragraph, will will be updating the COVID-19 numbers and news headlines only twice a month - on the first and sixteenth days of each month.  I will include my usual numbers:   world-wide, US, and the state of Colorado - for number of cases and deaths.  The first two sets are from the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Mapping database, and the third set is from the Colorado Department of Public Health.  I will also pass along the weekly WHO Epidemiological Report for countries reporting those numbers, along with the most important headline (to me, anyway) news stories of each week.

A Timeline of COVID-19 Around the World, From News Resources, For May 2021 - Updated Every 5 Days

 It's Saturday, May 1st, and the 147th running of the Kentucky derby will take place today.  Last year, due to the pandemic, the Derby was run in September - and the Triple Crown races were run in reverse, with a greatly shortened Belmont Stakes being run first.  It was very strange.  Churchill Downs is open at 25% of the normal capacity; a little over 41,000 people attended yesterday's Kentucky Oaks.

   I finally had my first COVID-19 vaccination - yesterday.  It's the Moderna vaccine, and I return for my second shot on 28 May.

   Republicans are fighting an inquiry into the January 6 Capitol Insurrection.  Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz is under FBI and DOJ scrutiny for sexual exploitation of a minor and sex trafficking.  Rudy Giuliani had federal search warrants served on his apartment and businesses, seizing records, computers, phones, tablets, etc in connection with the Trump Ukraine affair in 2019.

   President Joe Biden kept his promise and at least 1/3 - 100 million people, plus - of US citizens are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  But racial hatred is continuing to rise, as is police brutality against everyone.  Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts brought against him in the death of George Floyd; his three cohorts will face trial in August.

   Colorado is slowly opening up restaurants and bars.  The CDC says if you're fully vaccinated, it's OK to go outside without a mask, as long as you stay 6 feet away from people not in your immediate household.  California has opened up for business, and Disney Land in Anaheim has opened its' gates.

   I'll report the numbers I've been reporting - world-wide, US, and the state of Colorado - for number of cases and deaths.  The first two sets are from the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Mapping database, and the third set is from the Colorado Department of Public Health.  I will also pass along the weekly WHO Epidemiological Report for countries reporting those numbers, along with the most important headline (to me, anyway) news stories of each week.  I will make this report on the first and last days of the month, and every 5 days in between.  This month, the reports will be on the 1st, 6th, 11th, 16th, 21st, 26th, and 31st.  *****  As always, my own person notes, asides, and comments will be marked with multiple asterisks before and after. *****  I will also include any news-worthy headlines regarding the previous squatter in the White House.

   Pony Penning on Chincoteague and Assateague Islands in Virginia has been canceled to the public again this year.  Foals will be auctioned off on-line, as happened last year.  So far, the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company herds have had 23 foals this season, with two foals born on both of the last two days of April.  We'll see what's discovered today.

****** I had my second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at 9:20 am on Friday, May 28.  The Registered Nurse informed me that, as of 9:30 am on 11 June, I would be considered fully vaccinated and could go around without a mask in public.  My friends who had a two-shot dose of the vaccine stated the second dose had a kick - and it started for most of them within 3 hours of the injection.  For hours 2 through 13 after the shot, other than my upper arm being sore, I felt fine.  - Then, bang!  At 10:30, I developed a high fever and chills that had my teeth chattering as if I were out on below zero temperatures.  Twenty minutes later, just the slightest touch on my skin was terribly painful - and my cat walked back and forth across me and up and down my body the entire night, trying to comfort me, but only causing more pain...  That finally ended at 11 am on Saturday.  (And my cat and I cuddled for the rest of the weekend - she's old and has painful joints, too.)  So that's over....   ******

A Timeline of COVID-19 Around the World, From News Resources, For February 2021 - Updated Daily

 The first day of February 2021 has been dreary in Boulder, Colorado.  We had a huge stationary cloud that sat above the town during all the daylight hours.  A little bit of blue sky could be occasionally glimpsed toward the far west, but that was it.  Yucky weather.  

   This is the first day in a new month during President Joe Biden's administration, and he met with 10 Republican Senators for two hours this evening.  They were trying to convince him to reduce the $1.9 trillion pandemic relief package to $619 billion.  I don't think it worked.  And the Democrats gave the Republicans an ultimatum regarding Representative Greene from Georgia this afternoon, also.

   trump's defense team is supposed to present their opening brief to the Impeachment Managers tomorrow.  Five of his lawyers quit en masse on Saturday, and he has now hired two to replace the five.  The Impeachment trial is scheduled to begin on 8 February.  Apparently, their defense will be that he is no longer in office, so the charges must be dropped.  He wants them to argue the entire 2020 election was a fraud and he should still be in office.  Other men who have misused their government powers have been impeached after they were out of office, so I believe the defense will not work. - And the House Managers have a huge pile of evidence showing trump inciting his followers to attack the Capitol building while Congress and the Vice President were counting the Electoral College votes.  But there must be 17 Republican Senators who will vote to impeach for the measure to pass....

   My roommate and best friend, Beatrice, is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination beginning the week of 8 February.  However, there are shortages  of the vaccine, and she might not be able to schedule an appointment until mid-March.  We'll have to see what happens.

   The pandemic was announced on 11 March 2020 - about 46 weeks ago.  Since that date, we have not gone outside without a face mask.  We have washed our hands, and masks, assiduously.  We wipe down our door knobs, doors to the outside, and keys any time we go in or out.  We wash our re-usable grocery bags and the grocery cart with germ-killing solutions.  -  This is getting old.  

   My biggest frustration is being unable to browse the shelf selections inside a library.  It's a silly little thing.  I can request any book from the library - but I cannot browse and make a selection.  I have to read a description from the catalog and ask someone to put it on hold for me.  I miss being able to open a book and read a few paragraphs to see if I like the authors writing style.  It's a silly little thing - but it's the thing I miss doing the most.

   I am getting "burned out" looking at the numbers of confirmed cases and deaths and reporting them on a daily basis.  I might change how I do this documentation starting next month, March 2021.  We'll have to see as time passes.  I do want to keep a record of how trump's mismanagement and lies affected my natal nation.  And, next week, I shall be spending my days in front of the television, watching and listening to the second Impeachment trial of trump.

   I will post, daily, the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 numbers of cases and deaths for the world and the United States, as well as the Colorado Department of Health's numbers.  Almost every day I will post news headlines and their URLs that grabbed my attention.  As always, my own opinions and comments will have at least 4 asterisks before and behind them in that part of the blog....

****** Apparently, I misread and/or misheard the start time of the Impeachment proceedings today.  I had *thought*that the arguments - 4 hours - would start at 7 MST, be followed by an hour break, and that the trial would then commence.  Boy, was I wrong.  First, at 11 MST, the bipartisan agreement was voted upon.  89 Senators voted aye, and 11 Republicans voted nay.  The arguments started at about 11:30, with a short opening statement by Jaime Raskin, followed by the "stunning video" listed third from last in the US News listings.  Congressman Raskin spoke again, then turned the floor over to Joe Neguse (my Representative), who argued the case of the legality and Constitutionality of the Impeachment.  He was followed by David Cicillini of Rhode Island, with a short closing from Jaime Raskin that had me in tears.

  Then 45's clowns came on - Bruce Castor was telling stories and rambling and really didn't make much sense.  David Schoen appeared next - yelling and screaming, gulping water, and - finally - crying as he closed his argument by reading what he claimed was Abraham Lincoln's favorite poem, one by Longfellow.  His argument was circular, and he lied several times during his presentation.  Reports from sources who, supposedly, were with trump while he was watching his lawyers argue his case, state that 45 was screaming at the television, calling his lawyers names....

   Anyway, the actual Impeachment trial will begin at noon EST tomorrow.  I will be watching and listening and coloring. ******

   ******  The House Managers finished their prosecutorial presentation against 45 in his second Impeachment hearing.  Tomorrow, beginning at noon EST, his defense lawyers will begin to present their side of the argument.  They have announced that they will not be using the entire 16 hours allotted to them. ******

 *****  The defense team of four men gave a rather disjointed presentation that lasted about 2 1/2 hours out of the 16 they were allotted.  They presented 2 videos, one of which they played 3 times - it was over 10 minutes long with clips of Democrats (and Madonna and Johnny Depp, for some reason) saying or yelling the word "fight" with their own "soundtrack" of threatening, drum-ponding music. - Oh, and the defense team blatantly lied at least 5 times during their presentation.  But since this is an Impeachment trial, and not one in an actual court, nothing can be done to them.  The defense team also misspoke - using incorrect words and names several times, which was sometimes quite funny.

   Then there was the 4 hour question and answer session for the Senators to ask questions of both the defense team and the House Managers.  That lasted about 2 1/4 hours.  Then the Senate announced that Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman was sitting in the chamber, and that they wished to present the Congressional Medal of Honor to him for actions above and beyond the call of duty on 6 January.  To a standing ovation, Officer Goodman, stood, bowed his head, and covered his heart with his right hand.  I cried.

   The Impeachment trial will begin again tomorrow at 10 a.m. EST.  The Senate will decide whether or not to call witnesses for the trial.  If the decision is "No," then the vote to Impeach the previous president will be taken, and the trial will end.  If it is decided to call witnesses, I don't know if the trial will continue tomorrow, or if it will begin again on Tuesday, since Monday is a federal holiday. *****
