The first day of December 2020 has been very blah. Cloudy and gray, a high of 42° and no snow, even though a 30% chance was predicted; the same for tomorrow, but with a high of 28. Snow is still on the ground and north-facing roofs from the snow on 23 November. My best friend and I who share a two-bedroom apartment are low in spirits. Neither of us like cold weather or cloudy days, and our county is nearing a "lockdown, stay-at-home" level due to the pandemic. Of course, other than one driving trip through Rocky Mountain National Park, we've stayed at home, other than doing grocery shopping, since the pandemic was announced. - Of course we're depressed.
When we go outside, we socially distance. We wear a Face mask anytime we step outside the door (unless we're on the balcony, ten feet above the ground and ten feet away from the next one in the complex), even if it's just checking the mail or taking garbage or recycling to the dumpsters. When we go shopping, we carry our own supply of disinfectant wipes for the grocery carts in the shops.
When we re-enter our home, our shoes or boots immediately go into the boot tray, where they are sprayed with disinfectant. The door handles and locks are wiped down with disinfectant. Our keys and masks are immediately washed, along with our hands, for at least 1 minute in hot water with disinfectant soap. Our reusable shopping bags, once unloaded, are washed - inside and out - with Lysol or Pine Sol; and our granny-type shopping cart gets the same treatment.
The above routine is growing old, but we know it's keeping up safe. As older women with other health problems, we try to take care of ourselves.
COVID-19 is still spreading insidiously around the world. Even our Governor, Jared Polis, and the First Gentleman, Marlon Reis, tested positive during Thanksgiving week - and they've been stringently following safety protocols for the sake of their children. It's a frightening disease.
Our Christmases are usually quiet, and will be so again this year - even though we celebrate Yule more than "Christmas." Neither Beatrice nor I had had a Christmas tree in years until we started sharing expenses in this 2-bedroom. We purchased a "real" tree each year, but this year I bought an artificial tree for our continued use. We'll see what happens....
As usual, I will post, daily, the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 numbers of cases and deaths for the world and the United States, as well as the Colorado Department of Health's numbers. Almost every day I will post headlines and internet links to those stories that grabbed my attention - mostly regarding the pandemic, and a few about our departing President (#45). 45 is still trying to deny he lost the election to President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. The Electoral College won't vote until 3 December, but Biden has 306 votes, with 270 needed to win. One of Trump's attorneys advised him, by Twitter, today to declare the Electoral College defunct, and declare an insurrection within the nation so he can decree martial law, and then stay in the White House. He almost immediately Tweeted that Georgia didn't need to prepare for a run-off election for the 2 Senate seats in January, because "it won't be needed."

This will take time to straighten out, which will delay the passage of the bill, which means the government will again run out of money to function, until the relief bill is signed into law....
